Timex celebrates 170 years of watchmaking

Watch brand Timex® marks its 170th anniversary, commemorating its longstanding tradition of crafting durable timepieces.

Founded in 1854, Timex has been at the forefront of watchmaking innovation, transforming the industry with quality, accessible timepieces. The brand is recognised for its contributions, including the introduction of brass movements and mass assembly lines, which democratised timekeeping by making it accessible to a broader audience. Timex has also pioneered several advancements, such as the first smartwatch certified by NASA and the introduction of the INDIGLO® night-light.

In India, Timex has been present for nearly 35 years, launching notable collections like Marlin, Waterbury, and Q Timex. The brand recently introduced Fria, a collection designed for modern Indian women, blending classic designs with contemporary styles.

“From the launch of Timex’s iconic franchise Marlin, the brand has continued to build a legacy through technological innovation and contemporary designs. A Timex does more than just tell time; it tells your story. Our 35-year-old journey in India aligns with current fashion trends, solidifying our relevance and deepening our connection with Indian consumers,” Deepak Chhabra, Managing Director, Timex India, said.

Timex’s iconic collections, including Marlin, Waterbury, Q Timex, and Expedition North®, encapsulate the brand’s heritage and ongoing legacy. The Marlin collection, inspired by mid-century designs, remains a symbol of Timex’s blend of style, disruption, and quality. Waterbury represents classic watchmaking with American sensibility, while Q Timex draws from the bold, irreverent designs of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Expedition North® caters to outdoor enthusiasts with rugged, high-performance watches.

The Fria collection, designed specifically for the Indian market, features vibrant colors, playful patterns, and geometric shapes, offering versatility for various occasions.

Timex Group India Ltd (TGIL) designs, manufactures, and markets timepieces and is part of the Timex Group, a privately held company headquartered in Middlebury, Connecticut. TGIL offers a range of licensed brands, including Versace, Guess, Philip Plein, Ferragamo, Nautica, and Adidas Originals. The company operates over 5000 offline stores and key online marketplaces in India, along with over 40 exclusive franchise stores under the banners of Just Watches and Timex World.
