Textile sector to triple exports by 2030: PM Modi at Bharat Tex 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Brands of India Pavilion at Bharat Tex 2025, reaffirming the government’s commitment to India’s textile and apparel industry.

Held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, Bharat Tex 2025 brought together global stakeholders, policymakers, and manufacturers to shape the future of Indian textiles.

Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi said, “Today, we are the sixth largest textile exporter in the world. Our textile exports have reached three lakh crores of rupees. Now, our target is to take it to nine lakh crores of rupees by 2030. But I want to say that after seeing the enthusiasm of people today, I feel you all will prove my target wrong, and the work will be completed before that.”

Accompanied by Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh, the Prime Minister interacted with participants at the Brands of India Pavilion, organised by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI). The pavilion featured 40+ leading Indian apparel brands, highlighting the strength of India’s domestic market. Additionally, CMAI played a pivotal role in introducing over 100 MSME exhibitors across key categories such as apparel, textiles, and innovation.

Strengthening India’s Apparel Industry

CMAI’s Brands of India Pavilion showcased homegrown brands, reinforcing India’s position as a global textile powerhouse. Prominent names like Allen Solly, Biba, Calvin Klein, Forever 21, Manyavar, Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, and Westside were part of the showcase.

Beyond exhibitions, CMAI led industry-focused discussions and launched key sustainability initiatives, including:

  • SU.RE Website (in partnership with the United Nations) to advance sustainable fashion.
  • Sustainable Supply Chain Directory (developed with the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) and the Global Alliance for Textile Sustainability Council [GATS]) to promote ESG practices in Indian apparel manufacturing.

CMAI President Santosh Katariya emphasised the industry’s shift toward sustainability and innovation, highlighting the government’s strong support for Indian apparel manufacturers, brands, and start-ups.

“CMAI remains committed to empowering Indian brands to compete globally, ensuring India’s leadership in the apparel sector,” said Katariya.

Driving Policy & Sustainability Initiatives

Rahul Mehta, Chief Mentor, CMAI, underlined the significance of Bharat Tex 2025 as a platform for industry collaboration and policy-driven initiatives. Discussions covered topics such as INDIAsize (India’s standardised sizing project), opportunities in value retailing, and the SU.RE initiative for sustainable fashion.

Aligning with the 5F Vision—Farm to Fiber to Factory to Fashion to Foreign Markets, Bharat Tex 2025 emphasised manufacturing excellence, sustainability, and innovation.
