RSWM Ltd. unveils sustainability roadmap in fashion and textiles

RSWM Limited, a part of the LNJ Bhilwara Group, has outlined its sustainability strategy under the initiative Redefining Sustainability – Mapping Initiatives for a Greener Tomorrow.’ The company has adopted six distinct approaches to reduce its environmental impact and drive innovation within the textile industry.

A significant component of RSWM’s strategy is its commitment to renewable energy. The company operates a 20 MW wind power unit, an additional 40 MW wind capacity, and a 32 MW solar power plant. This infrastructure facilitates clean energy integration across its operations, significantly lowering carbon emissions.

Complementing its renewable energy efforts, RSWM has been integrating biofuels into its production processes. The company has already reduced carbon emissions by 800,000 metric tons annually and plans to achieve 75% biofuel integration by 2025. It has invested ₹35 crore to convert three of its six coal-fired boilers to biofuel, with plans to transition all boilers within the next year.

In its manufacturing operations, RSWM emphasises sustainable input materials, using organic cotton, recycled cotton, and recycled polyester. Annually, the company processes 8,162 MT of recycled cotton from pre-and post-consumer waste, as well as recycled polyester derived from 1,830 PET bottles, which now represents 50% of its polyester production. This shift significantly reduces reliance on virgin resources.

The company has also adopted a zero-waste policy in its textile production, recycling all fibre waste and reintegrating it into the manufacturing cycle, demonstrating a commitment to the circular economy.

Water conservation is a critical pillar of RSWM’s sustainability framework. The company adheres to a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) policy, recycling all wastewater for operational reuse or converting it into potable water for local communities. These efforts are further supported by advanced rainwater harvesting systems at its facilities.

Additionally, organic waste generated during operations is repurposed as manure for the orchards and greenery around its plants. Some agricultural plots managed by RSWM exclusively use organic manure, reducing the dependency on chemical fertilizers.

RSWM’s adherence to global sustainability standards is affirmed by certifications such as GOTS, OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Global Recycled Standard, and ISO 14001:2015. Its forward-looking goals include sourcing 50% of energy from renewables by 2035, reducing the water footprint of new textiles by 30%, eliminating harmful chemicals by 2030, and achieving full supply chain transparency by 2032.
