Mumbai-based sustainable fashion brand Unirec joined forces with Netflix to introduce an exclusive line of merchandise for the recently released film ‘The Archies.’ This collaboration not only brings forth eco-friendly fashion but also champions environmental conservation through a unique initiative, the brand announced in a release on Friday.
The sustainable merchandise produced by Unirec will feature garments made from recycled plastic bottles or RPET fabric. To further contribute to the environment, Unirec has committed to planting a tree for every garment sold. The move aligns with the storyline of ‘The Archies,’ which centers around nature conservation.
The collection draws inspiration from the iconic Archie’s brand, beloved since the 1960s, and reflects the film’s themes, including the band and its members, the town of Riverdale and Park, and the overarching emphasis on nature conservation.
In a bid to cater to diverse preferences and sizes, Unirec’s ‘The Archies’ merchandise includes round-neck T-shirts and hoodies, available from extra small to 3XL. The garments are priced competitively, with T-shirts starting from ₹999 and hoodies from ₹1999. The collection, blending cotton and RPET fabric, ensures durability and comfort suitable for the Indian climate.
“We are extremely excited for the launch of our entire collection and hope that it is appreciated by everyone. We hope that by offering this collection, a growing number of individuals including the youth will be aware of our brand and help us create a sustainable world for better living,” Kapil Bhatia, CEO and founder of Unirec said.
Adding a philanthropic touch to the collaboration, Unirec will plant a tree for each garment sold, partnering with the NGO Global Vikas Trust. Focused on rural economy development, environmental initiatives, and holistic farmer development, the NGO has already made significant strides, planting over 4.5 crore fruit trees and elevating farmers’ incomes in Marathwada, Maharashtra.
Over the past 18 months, Unirec has achieved notable milestones, selling more than 25,000 garments made from recycled PET bottles. This translates to the recycling of 300,000 PET bottles, a reduction of over 100 tonnes of carbon emissions, and the recycling of 6000 kilograms of plastic bottles.
Unirec stands as one of India’s first sustainable brands, producing clothing from recycled PET bottles, the release added. Committed to a vision of zero-climate impact and zero-defect products, Unirec offers a range of formal jackets, sleeveless jackets, trousers, shirts, and T-shirts. The Mumbai-based brand currently reaches consumers through e-commerce platforms such as Amazon, Myntra, and LBB.
