In a landmark move towards revolutionising sustainable silk production, EcoTasar, a leading enterprise focused on eco-friendly textiles, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour.
The collaboration aims to foster innovation in silk research and development while empowering rural artisans across Bihar and beyond.
This partnership will focus on joint research initiatives, technological exchange, and skill development to improve the quality and yield of silk, especially Tasar silk — a wild silk variety native to the region. Through this alliance, EcoTasar and BAU will work together to make silk production more sustainable, inclusive, and economically viable for rural communities.
Speaking about the initiative, Khitish Pandya, Founder of EcoTasar, said, “This collaboration is a significant milestone in our journey to strengthen the silk value chain. By joining hands with Bihar Agricultural University, we are aligning science with community needs. Our joint effort will not only boost innovation in Tasar silk but also ensure that the benefits reach the grassroots — the rural artisans and sericulture farmers who form the backbone of this sector.”
The MoU underscores a shared commitment to environmental sustainability, rural livelihood generation, and the promotion of India’s rich silk heritage. With EcoTasar’s field experience and BAU’s academic and technical expertise, this partnership is poised to make Bihar a hub of excellence in sustainable silk production.
