Birla Cellulose, a leader in sustainable fiber solutions, held the second edition of its hub-meet at The Residency, Karur. The event aimed to highlight the potential of sustainable Man-Made Cellulosic Fibers (MMCF) in the Home textile sector and was attended by 110 prominent exporters and company owners from the Karur cluster.
The hub-meet focused on integrating sustainable MMCF solutions into the home textiles industry, aligning with the growing consumer preference for eco-friendly products. Key topics included the benefits of MMCF in creating high-quality, sustainable home textiles.
Among the guests were Gopal Krishnan, President of the Karur Textile Manufacturer Exporters Association, Velusamy, Assistant Director of the Textile Committee in the Karur cluster, Perumal, Managing Director of South Indian Textiles, and Kaliappan, Managing Director of Anboli Fabrics.
The event featured active participation from notable value chain partners such as AGT Mills, PKPN, Kumaran, Sutlej Textiles, and Kumaraguru Mills. The session emphasized a collective commitment to advancing sustainable practices across the textile sector.
A significant highlight was the interest shown by exporters in Birla Cellulose’s innovative products, particularly Spunshades, which garnered attention for its Colour Lock Technology. This technology embeds dye pigments into the fiber, preventing fading even after multiple washes, in contrast to conventional fabric piece-dyeing methods.
Gopal Krishnan commented, “Karur’s home textile industry, valued at around Rs 9000 crore, welcomes Birla Cellulose’s initiative to guide us through the adoption of the MMCF range. We are confident about incorporating Birla Cellulose’s fibers into our regular product offerings. The process for incubation has begun, and we look forward to more sustainable and economical substitutes for existing raw materials.”
Kaliappan added, “The elaborate presentation on Birla Cellulose’s product offerings provided a deep insight into the possible applications of the fibers in home textiles.”
T. Murugan, President Global Head, Business Development at Birla Cellulose, expressed, “We are delighted and encouraged by the positive response from industry leaders and exporters from last meeting at the Karur hub-meet. Our in-depth discussions and enthusiasm for exploring our products with integrated reciprocal capabilities enhance our confidence in the transformative power of responsible innovation. Our innovative product Spunshades and Lyocell blends with cotton solutions are poised to redefine the Home Textiles landscape, and the overwhelming interest shown here is truly encouraging.”
